The Volvo Ocean Race has announced the just-opened The District Docklands as the major partner for its Melbourne Stopover and week-long, free summer festival to be held from 27 December 2017 to 2 January 2018.

The Volvo Ocean Race has announced the just-opened The District Docklands as the major partner for its Melbourne Stopover and week-long, free summer festival to be held from 27 December 2017 to 2 January 2018. The partnership comes as both parties work towards the common goal of drawing crowds to Docklands and entertaining visitors over the New Year period.

The Volvo Ocean Race Melbourne Stopover will be bringing entertainment and action for all ages as well as Melbourne’s best food and bars to the Docklands area. The fun, festive atmosphere is set to benefit local businesses as crowds come down to experience the excitement.
“With H&M forming the centrepiece of an all new retail offer and with a state-of-the-art entertainment and dining precinct and fresh food marketplace opening soon, The District Docklands is primed to become Melbourne’s leading lifestyle destination”, said Kelly Jensen, Marketing Director, The District Docklands. “We are so excited to welcome the Volvo Ocean Race Melbourne Stopover to Docklands, bringing another great reason for travellers and locals alike to visit this summer.”

The partnership will see The District Docklands operate as the official event sponsor of the Pro-Am Race day on 30 December, where partners and Race stakeholders have a chance to experience the competitive racing action, joining the crews on board the impressive Volvo Ocean 65 Yachts.The District Docklands will also be supplying the Volvo Ocean Race offices and Media Centre, making it the home of the Volvo Ocean Race.

The Volvo Ocean Race and The District Docklands are aiming to draw 125,000 visitors to the Melbourne Stopover Summer Festival.
